Classic Easter plait

There are barely 4 weeks left until Easter. The search for Easter recipes begins to serve the family something delicious and, above all, homemade. To relieve you of this, today we present you with a really delicious recipe that is easy to prepare.

Preparation

Step 1

Place the flour in a mixing bowl and make a well in the centre. Crumble in the yeast, add 1 teaspoon of the sugar and some of the lukewarm milk. Mix gently with a fork and leave the pre-dough to rise at room temperature for about 15 minutes. Melt the butter or margarine in the remaining warm milk.

Step 2

Add the remaining ingredients, except sultanas, and the lukewarm milk-fat mixture to the yeast mixture and mix everything briefly with a hand mixer (dough hook) on the lowest speed, then mix on the highest speed for about 5 minutes to form a smooth dough. If desired, knead in the sultanas briefly. Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place until it has visibly increased in size. In the meantime, line the baking tray with baking paper.

Step 3

Knead the dough again well on a lightly floured work surface and divide into 3 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a strand (about 40 cm). Place the dough strands on the baking tray and braid into a plait. Cover and let the plait rise until it has visibly increased in size. In the meantime, preheat the oven.
Top/bottom heat: about 180°C
Hot air: about 160°C

Step 4

Beat the egg yolk with the milk and brush the plait with it. Sprinkle with almonds. Place the tray in the lower third of the oven.
Baking time: about 30 minutes

Step 5

Pull the plait with the baking paper onto a cake rack and leave to cool.
